These types of survival games may involve engaging with other online players, whether it be friendly or hostile and one can enjoy them on their own. There are many popular survival games that differentiate from one another in terms of how each game utilizes certain survival game mechanics. For instance, some may have different ways in which one can build up their base. Some games will implement the weather in another manner. Also, they will likely have different ways to craft certain items within the game and probably will have different kinds of materials to gather compared to others. The combat system will likely be different from one game to another. The progression systems may also differ as well. Even though they may differ when it comes to the implementation of certain game mechanics, they still all have a similar system utilized throughout every survival game, which is important to understand when starting.
Utilizing Weight
Most survival games have a weight system in place that is important in many different ways. Some may require the player to level up their character's weight capacity to allow the player to be able to store more materials or items they have crafted in their inventory, which can be extremely useful. Especially since they won’t have to keep going back and forth often and it will give extra space to hold other items that may be needed. Other survival games might have the player craft something that can hold more items, like a backpack of some sort. So, it is important to know how the weight system works for every survival game.
Spawn Points
Another important element that is a part of survival games is the fact that when one dies within the game, they come back to a spawn point that the player will get to place down wherever they choose to do so. Usually, the spawn point is in the form of a bed, which the player can craft. This is essential since it will decide whether you are able to take a small trip back to your stuff or it can be a rather large journey back to your stuff. Again, take the time to place the bed or spawn point just in case something may happen, which can cause the player to lose all their valuable stuff on them.
Hunger/Thirst System
It is no surprise that a survival game will have a set hunger and thirst gameplay mechanic since it is a survival game after all. Therefore, one should always make sure to bring enough food to keep oneself from dying of thirst or hunger.
Stamina Usage
In these types of games, the player will usually have to manage their stamina, so they should pay close attention to that bar, it will determine the amount of movement one can do. The player might have to avoid certain threats that are in certain places on the map, the only way to successfully do this is to pick a path that is less likely to have threats or a path that allows one to take a rest on something like a huge rock, which will allow for the player to regenerate stamina overtime.
